Margarita Bolycheva held an online meeting with the management of the UN Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries
A meeting of the Chairman Margarita Bolycheva with the representative of the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries Joshua Setipa was held in the State Committee of the Republic of Bashkortostan for Foreign Economic Relations and Congress Activities in the videoconference mode.
The United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly whose mission is to enhance the contribution of science, technology, and innovation to sustainable development in the least developed countries of the world.
Joshua Setipa gave a presentation of the bank, whose history dates back to June 2018 during the meeting. Its main task is to help the 47 countries that fall under the category of least developed countries, as well as to support them for 5 years after graduation from this category. Margarita Bolycheva noted the importance and relevance of the bank's activities.
The United Nations defines least developed countries as low-income countries that face serious structural obstacles to sustainable development. They are extremely vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks and are characterized by a low level of human capital development. The Republic of Bashkortostan can act as a potential exporter of digital and information technologies in this matter.
Besides, the Chairman of the State Committee invited Joshua Setipa to the upcoming award ceremony of the World Tourism Technology Award 2020 (WTTA), which will be held within the framework of the First World Conference in the Field of Technology in Tourism in Ufa on March 5-6.
